How I Won 5 Hours of My Life Back with the Medici App

So, you’ve heard the story. One kid wakes up a coughing and sweaty mess and suddenly everything you had planned for the day goes down the drain because the poor little guy is really hurting and not seeing the doctor today just isn’t an option.

Then the hurdle becomes getting the other kids to school (praying they don’t have similar germs incubating within them) and trying to weasel into an appointment with the pediatrician who is wonderful, but obviously really busy in her own right. If I’m lucky enough to get an appointment, we have to drive over, wait in a waiting room (again praying there aren’t other germs there also looking for a host in the form of my poor fevery baby), and actually see the doc. It’s a minor diagnosis and we get out of the doctor’s office and head straight for the pharmacy for a simple
cough medicine.

But, what if only the last part of this scenario was necessary? Well, I’m here to tell you ladies and gents…it’s a real thing.

Here at Austin Mom’s Blog, we’re fortunate to hear about some fantastic products to make the lives of mothers both easier and more efficient and I can’t tell you how grateful I am for that. When my son woke up with a fever this past week, I didn’t immediately dread the imminent wait in the doctor’s waiting room.

Instead, I busted out my iPhone and opened the Medici app. I’d heard through an email newsletter that my pediatrician partnered with Medici to offer consultations via the app. Although I was a little hesitant, the email assured me that all communications through Medici are secure, you can quickly get a consultation, and the cost is actually cheaper than my co-pay.

I started a consultation with my pediatrician on the app and within 10 minutes, I’d given her all the details in a text exchange. She quickly diagnosed my son’s condition and sent an e-prescription to the pharmacy down the street. All for $25.

My mind was blown.

Not only did I not have to cancel all my calls for the day (I’m lucky enough to work from home), but my son also got the medicine he needed in record time.

My only critique is… why hasn’t someone done this sooner?!

I know the day will come (and probably sooner rather than later) when one of my kiddos or even I need to see a doctor and my mind is at ease that it can be a quick and pleasant experience now rather than something that disrupts my entire day. Medici also partners with veterinarians so I’m sure I’ll try that out at some stage as well.

But really, I can’t recommend Medici highly enough. I won back AT LEAST 5 hours of my life with the app and I see many more such events in my future. If your doctor hasn’t partnered with Medici yet, there’s an easy way to invite them. Hopefully your doctor will jump on the technology train, because it’s moving fast!
