Cheers {tee hee hee…pun intended} to Katie for her amazingly heartfelt and honest post from yesterday. But I think it’s time we talk about something else extremely important as we steamroll our way into 100 degree weather for the next 2 months. What to drink!

I have thought long and hard about what I consider a perfect summer beverage. And here’s what makes the grade for my fave recipes:

  • Easy to make {few and easy-to-find ingredients}
  • COLD
  • Yummy

I know, I know…I sound hard to please! So…drumroll please…

Drinks

1. Summer Texas Punch

  • 2 bottles Moscato
  • 1 pink lemonade concentrate
  • 3 cups of Sprite
  • fresh raspberries

Why this drink is awesome: For starters, Texas is in its name, so you already know it’s a winner. But seriously, this is completely cool and refreshing…and has fruit in it, so it is totally healthy, too, right? It’s my longest recipe, but nothing about this recipe is challenging, and I think this one is a ‘pretty’ drink too, so it would be great for a girls night or bridal shower!

2. John Daly

  • sweet tea vodka
  • lemonade

Why this drink is awesome: Hello 2 ingredients! You can’t get much easier than that. And, for anyone who doesn’t know the history of the John Daly…Arnold Palmer (a famous golfer) mixes tea and lemonade, this became known as an…wait for it…Arnold Palmer. Well, John Daly is the alcoholic of the golf world, so this drink is the alcoholic Arnold Palmer. So double points for there being just as easy of a non-alcoholic version for times when drinking just isn’t okay. Lastly, have you seen his pants? Come on, you have to try a drink named after a guy in those pants! This is my go-to drink.

3. Deep Eddy Ruby Red Vodka

  • Ruby Red Vodka
  • ANYTHING!

Why this drink is awesome: It is an Austin based company {P.S. – they have a sweet tea version for when you are making your John Daly} and pairs wonderfully with anything. Sprite, lemonade, tonic water…you name it, the possibilities are endless! This would be another great choice for a party because guests could mix-and-match their own perfect drink!

4. Mexican Pirate

  • rum
  • horchata

Why this drink is awesome: My coworker and her friend created this drink, and I think it’s another perfect fit for Texas. If you’ve eaten at any Tex-Mex restaurant, you’ve seen horchata. It’s made from milk, rice, vanilla and cinnamon. It is my most ‘challenging’ ingredient, but given our Central Texan affinity for Tex-Mex, it’s super easy to find.

5. Root Canal Float

  • 1 can root beer
  • shot or 2 of Jack Daniel’s
  • vanilla ice cream

Why this drink is awesome: It’s dessert! No wait! It’s an alcoholic drink! But wait! It’s a dessert!I mean, seriously, how can you go wrong with this?

 Float

There you have it. I hope you get your {responsible} drink on and enjoy the rest of summer! What is your favorite summer drink?

P.S. – I am already working on my winter drink list…and you can bet the Harry Potter butterbeer recipe I have is so making the list!
