It is that time of year again! Parents of school-age children are packing up and finding new places to call home. While we can’t eliminate all of your moving pains, we can give you some great tips that will make the transition a little smoother. Here is what we’ve learned during 2 dozen moves:
1. Pack in Clear Plastic Totes
I ditched cardboard boxes for plastic totes and it was a great decision! There is no need to label or color code anything when you can see what is in your box. They are reusable and they are so much easier to stack, unload, and store than cardboard boxes. Bronko Box is also an awesome, affordable, and rentable option!
2. Use Suitcases for your Heaviest Items
We all have those heavy things. For me, it is my insane book collection. I very clearly remember filling up boxes and then being unable to move it. Using the wheels on your suitcase to transport books will save your back!
3. Pack an Overnight Bag
Instead of leaving it to chance that you will unpack your toiletries, phone charger, and clothes on the first day of moving, pack an overnight bag! Having one or two days worth of necessities makes everything easier.
4. Ditch the Bubble Wrap
Prevent your glassware from breaking by wrapping them in clothes – You’ll need to pack your wardrobe anyways! Save space and eliminate bubble wrap by wrapping glassware and other breakables in t-shirts and towels and stuff socks or washcloths inside of your cups.
4. Roll your Clothes
Packing up your drawers? Roll them instead of folding them and be amazed by the amount of room you save!
5. Save your Floors
Place towels under your heavy furniture before you move it to prevent damage to floors.
6. Ziplocks are Your Friend
If you are dismantling furniture, place nuts and bolts in Ziplock bags and tape them to the furniture to avoid losing them.
7. Embrace your Hanging Clothes
Pack your closet using trash bags. I hope this one tip alone changes your entire moving experience.
8. Don’t forget to Clean
If you are renting, call your property manager and ask what cleaning team they use. If anything is wrong with the cleaning you won’t be recharged.
9. Pizza & Beer
Prepare to treat yourself and your friends to this moving day staple. Full friends are happy friends
